Members of the Native American community are not happy over Pharrell Williams' latest headdress.
The "Happy" hittmaker, who quickly became linked to the Vivienne Westwood high hat he wore to the Grammys this year, sports a feathered Native American headdress on the July cover of Elle UK. Critics are calling it offensive and disrespectful to Native American culture and Williams is offering an apology.
In a statement through his publicist the singer said he respects and honors "every kind of race, background and culture," adding, "I am genuinely sorry."
Before the controversy, Elle UK called its cover of Pharrell its "best shoot ever," saying it continues the magazine's "tradition of featuring cult male icons on collector's edition covers." The issue is due out June 15th.
